Giles Ward

Giles Ward sources his subjects from fishmongers and local markets — lobsters, crabs, fish pulled from cold water — and returns them to canvas in a state of vivid, almost confrontational life. Trained in Fine Art in Sheffield and Illustration and Design in Exeter, his paintings are built from oils, acrylics, inks, and spray paint, with sawdust and crab shell pressed into surfaces that have genuine texture and weight. 

Based in the Wye Valley, Ward is drawn to the detail most people overlook: the geometry of a shell, the iridescence of a scale. His work makes a quiet argument for paying closer attention.
