Wirewood Trees
Clive Maddison grew up exploring Sherwood Forest. That early immersion in woodland- its structure, its silence, its particular quality of life- has never left him. Now based in Devon, he constructs intricate wire trees by hand: a single unbroken strand running from root to leaf tip, held in form by tension alone. No solder. No adhesive. No shortcuts.
Each sculpture is anchored in a handworked base of Sweet Chestnuts or Sample, the wire and the wood in quiet conversation. Because every piece is made entirely by hand, no two are identical. They are not reproductions of trees. They are studies in what a tree remembers.
