Helen Gee
Helen Gee paints on gold. Not as a stylistic gesture, but as a considered return to a much older tradition - one that runs from medieval illuminated manuscripts to Art Deco and Art Nouveau, and into her own studio of the banks of the River Severn.
Working with genuine 24-carat gold and silver leaf as her ground, she layers wildlife and landscapes over surfaces that catch light differently as the day moves. Bees, birds, hares, and endangered species rendered with botanical precision against grounds that seems to hold their own warmth. Her work has traveled to Virginia, Valencia, and beyond.
